Card of the Week commencing Sunday 9th August 2026
This week we've drawn
the Nine of Wands
Welcome!
We've a Minor Arcana card this week, and one that looks very busy. That's quite appropriate here, because intense is exactly how I see the Nine of Wands!
If we imagine the Ace through to Ten as a journey, with Ace representing the beginning and Ten bringing us to completion, the Nine tells us we're nearly there. And Wands are all about action, ambition, enthusiasm, passion and get-up-and-go. 🔥
So why is that energy feeling so intense?
Perhaps we're approaching success or the completion of something we've worked hard towards, but we're not quite there and there's one final push required. Or have we got so much going on that we're beginning to feel overwhelmed and 'can't see the wood for the trees'?
Without other cards around it, I'll leave that one for you to decide! Either way, the Nine of Wands asks us to pay attention to how we're using our energy.
Being close to the finishing line doesn't mean we have to race towards it. Equally, if we're feeling overwhelmed, perhaps we need to stop trying to tackle everything at once and work out what actually needs our attention first.
When the Nine of Wands appears for me, I often take it as a cue to sit down and sort my head out. Usually that means writing down everything I need to do, everything that's weighing me down, and then deciding what's important and what can wait. After all, Wands are associated with the fire element🔥 and even the brightest flame will eventually burn itself out if we don't look after it.
As always, the cards don't tell us what will happen. Instead, they invite us to pause, reflect and ask ourselves the questions that matter.
Questions to Consider
💙 Where is most of my energy going at the moment, and is that where I actually want to spend it?
💙 Am I overwhelmed, or do I just need to stop, organise my thoughts and decide what comes first?
💙 What do I need to do to reach the finishing line without exhausting myself in the process?
Sometimes being nearly there is exactly when we need to pace ourselves.
This is a collective tarot card reading for the week, so take what resonates and leave the rest. For legal reasons in the UK, all readings should be regarded as being for entertainment purposes only.
This week's card was drawn from another deck published by Lo Scarabeo. It's a pip deck called very simply, the Universal Tarot de Marseille. I do love it, but haven't used it much recently as it got water-damaged in my bag 🙈
If you'd like guidance that's personal to your own situation, I'd love to welcome you for an individual online Tarot reading, or perhaps you'd like to host a Tarot party or meet up at one of my public events?
